Demand for Coronavirus Treatment Drugs Has Increased Due to the Increasing Cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Coronavirus treatment drugs are used to treat an infectious disease (COVID-19) caused by the novel coronavirus. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), worldwide, as of 5:54pm CEST, 27 July 2021, there have been 194,608,040 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 4,170,155 deaths. Thus, there is an increasing demand for coronavirus treatment drugs across the globe. Drug delivery devices or system are the tools used to deliver the drug through the specific route of administration.

Drugs targeting coronavirus necessitates the identification of a suitable delivery system, and thus, there is an increasing demand for COVID-19 drug delivery devices worldwide. COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization, while others require hospitalization. Most common symptoms include dry cough, fever, and tiredness. Thus, with the increasing number of cases, the demand for coronavirus treatment drugs is also increasing rapidly, worldwide.

In April 2021, Japan approved the use of baricitinib, a rheumatoid drug, for treating COVID-19 patients, making it the third drug OK’d for use against coronavirus, after Remdesivir and dexamethasone. Moreover, Raloxifene and Remdesivir showed antiviral effects for both the Ebola- and new coronavirus-infected cells, while pioglitazone proved effective against virus. Furthermore, in March 2021, Mexico approved the anti-viral drug Remdesivir for emergency use treating COVID-19 patients in the Latin American country.

Coronavirus treatment drugs include therapeutics that are used to treat the novel coronavirus. There are various drug classes available in the market, such as monoclonal antibodies, anti-viral, corticosteroids, and Kinase inhibitors than can be used to treat the virus. However, the treatment of the virus is usually depends on the severity of the disease or severity of symptoms such as severe, moderate and mild. The virus can damage the lungs, heart, and brain, which increases the risk of long-term health problems.

This in turn has increased the demand for coronavirus treatment drugs across the world.
