Demand for Reed Switch Devices Has Increased With the Increasing Trend of Electric Vehicles

Reed switch device is an electromagnetic switch used to control the flow of electricity in a circuit. Reed switch devices are of three types, changeover (C-Type), normally closed (B-Type), and normally open (A-Type). They are made up of two or more ferrous reeds enclosed within a small glass tube-like envelope, which become magnetized and move together or separate when a magnetic field is moved towards the switch. Due to their simple construction, they are widely used in various end-use industries, such as robotics and automation, security, automotive, and electronics and communications, among others.

Moreover, reed switch devices are widely used in a variety of devices such as smartphone, laptops, home security devices, ignition switches in cars and bikes, and others. They provide many advantages such as low power consumption, low cost operation, long life, and others. In automotive industry, these devices are used at all levels from petrol/diesel engine vehicles to electric vehicles. Reed switch devices perform well in all parts of a vehicle, such as emission monitoring and control system, ignition system, breaking system, and others. Thus, they are widely used in electric vehicles, worldwide.

According to the Clean Energy Wire, the German government planned get ten million electric cars on the road by 2030. Moreover, Japan has worked out a target of increasing the share of eco-friendly automobiles, such as hybrid and electric, to between 50% and 70% by 2030. All new vehicles sold in Japan by the mid-2030s will be hybrid or electric as the government begins to unveil concrete steps for reaching its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. This in turn is expected to increase the demand for reed switch device in Germany and Japan.

Furthermore, automatic door locks, parking brakes, air bags, door, seat, and hood proximity sensors also utilize reed switches. Reed switch devices are also used in speed sensors for engine control and power steering.
