Latin America BFS technology (blow-fill-seal technology) is a technique used to manufacture liquid-filled polymer containers. BFS technology is a sealing technology used to create large and small volume liquid-filled bottles with excellent sealing properties. These bottles are used in food, cosmetic, medicine, and hygiene products as well as other industries. The process of blow-filling involves filling the inner chamber of the bottle with a sterile air cushion and blowing the air through the filling material to fill the outer area of the bottle, which consists of a rubber or textile seal.
Now, applications of Latin America BFS technology has expanded to biologics and injectables, such as monoclonal antibodies and vaccines. BFS technology is widely used across various end-use industries, such as personal care, cosmetics, and food & beverages. The technology reduces the chances of microbial contamination and penetration of foreign particles. Moreover, BFS technology is considered as an improved form of aseptic processing by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the packaging of pharmaceutical-healthcare products.
In Latin America, the BFS technology is witnessing considerable growth due to the growing pharmaceutical sector in this region. According to Coherent Market Insights, the Latin America Pharmaceutical Products CMO Market is estimated to be valued at US$ 15,173.6 million in 2020. In 2019, Brazil was by far the Latin American country with the highest pharmaceutical market value. ACG Group opened a massive capsule manufacturing plant in Brazil. Moreover, Major pharmaceutical player Novartis is making a big move into Mexico with a US$ 20 million investment in their service center.
This technology is widely used to produce aseptically sterile pharmaceutical liquid products. It is also used in filling of eye drops, infusions, inhalation, and other parental preparations. Thus, there is an increasing demand for Latin America BFS technology across the region.
