Microscale 3D Printing Is the Production of Several Three-Dimensional Objects from a Digital 3D Model or a Computer-Aided Design

Microscale 3D printing is used all over the world, including in regions such as Japan. Microscale 3D printing is the building of a three-dimensional object out of a CAD drawing or a digital 3D image. This process is done by using several types of additive materials which are pressed together under pressure using a unique printing head.

The most common material used in microscale 3D printing is resin. Resin is a thermosetting polymer, which is melted down under high heat and pressure. It is cured with the help of an ultraviolet light source on the surface. Polyurethane and nylon are other commonly used resins. There are several advantages of using this material in the manufacturing process. In regions such as Japan, the increasing prevalence of 3D printing startups has increased the processes of microscale 3D printing. For instance, according to Tracxn Technologies Limited, there are currently 28 3D printing startups in Japan.

The resin used in microscale 3D printing is more durable and long-lasting than other similar materials like powder or vinyl. Most of the microscale 3D printing manufactured today uses resin. Using the conventional methods of manufacturing can be hazardous to workers and even the environment. The high temperatures needed to weld the pieces together can cause serious damage not just to the machine but also to the worker. The mixture of powder and ink used for the printing process can also be a fire hazard. This is why many industries now use the revolutionary technique of additive manufacturing or microscale 3D printing to manufacture their products.

Additive technology allows designers to create a wide variety of objects from plastics to metal. A recent study showed how microscale 3D printing is useful in the military where they were able to produce a replica of a helicopter complete with all its modifications. In doing this, the military was able to test the effectiveness of microscale 3D printing technology on large scale. Additive manufacturing may soon be used to improve everyday life for not only the military but for the general public as well.
