Emulsion Styrene Butadiene Rubber Offers Superior Chemical Resistance Properties Ideal for Injection Molding

Emulsion styrene butadiene rubber or styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) refer to series of synthetic rubbers derived completely from styrene and butadiene resin. These materials have good aging stability and excellent abrasion resistance when treated by suitable additives. The marker for SBR in the U.S. is witnessing M&A activities. In May 2021, U.S.-based Trinseo agreed to sell its synthetic rubber business to the Polish company Synthos for US$ 491 million.

There are many kinds of styrene-butadiene rubber products that are used in tires and other industrial applications. These include butadiene rubber liquid injectors for rubber-stamping, butadiene rubber compound and butadiene-rubber sheet. Many people are allergic to synthetic rubbers and other man-made substances. They are mostly made out of natural rubber tree extracts. Because of its complex processing procedure, natural rubber tree extracts are not suitable for most kinds of industrial applications.

For instance, although they are derived from natural rubber trees, synthetic rubbers and other man-made materials are rarely found in tires and other automotive parts. The reason behind this phenomenon is that natural rubber trees do not contain solvents that can dissolve asphalt and bond with oil. As a result, synthetic rubbers often fail to expand, deform or deteriorate with prolonged exposure to solvents. On the other hand, natural rubber compounds expand slowly, which results in better chemical resistance properties.

The properties of emulsion styrene butadiene rubber that make it ideal for injection molding are excellent in providing superior chemical resistance properties. Both these synthetic rubbers and their components possess the ability to expand and contract without causing damage to the parts being molded. The components can be formed into the shape of the object being molded without jeopardizing the accuracy and stability of the finished product. This property makes it useful for manufacturing tires, tubes, pipes and other objects with complicated shapes.

Emulsion process of styrene-butadiene involves applying the two polymerized ingredients at the same time, thereby combining the properties of each component. The process allows the manufacturers to create rubber products with superior elasticity and durability, even under high temperatures. In addition, injecting the polymerized mixture into the final product prevents the release of volatile organic compounds (VOC) during the manufacturing process. Moreover, the application of the two ingredients allows the rubber and butadiene emulsion to form a homogenous substance, so the final product is consistent and smooth in texture.
