Cementless Neck Stems; Help Develop a Strong Connection between the Implant & Bone

Different types of cementless neck stems are available in the market, such as porous plus HA, HA-coated, porous-coated, grit blasted, etc. Cementless stems implants widely used in total hip replacement. They help reduce two major complications of total hip replacement, such as loosening of the prosthesis and chances of infection. Moreover, they help develop a stronger connection between the implant and the bone, which reduces pain in the hip post implantation and reduces friction in the intramedullary cavity.

Cementless neck stems offer various features such as hydroxyapatite coated stems help secure fixation, HA-coated provide high strength, and porous-coated stems promote bone ingrowth and SD interlocking between the implant and the bone. A hip replacement surgery is carried out in case of bone tumors, fracture, osteonecrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and hip joint damage, which may lead to hip breakdown and create need of hip replacement. This in turn is expected to increase the demand for cementless stems.

The total hip replacement is a very common surgery that helps reduce pain and rigidity in the hip joint. Every year, thousands of hip and knee replacement procedures are performed across the globe, providing great benefit to many patients. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), every year, about 332,000 total hip replacement surgeries are performed in the United States. Despite the common perception that total hip replacements last about 10 years, researchers have found that the devices are extremely durable, even 20 years.

Cementless neck stems ensure that the implant holds to the patient's bone. This is achieved by generating compression with the use of a slightly larger implant than the size of the bone-bed. Moreover, cementless total hip replacement is rapidly being accepted as the surgery for arthritic diseases of the hip joint. Thus, there is an increasing demand for cementless neck stems around the world, especially in the U.S.
