An insight into how sodium percarbonate has become an essential element in bleaching chemicals, laundry additives, and detergents

Sodium Percarbonate is a compound that has many uses and benefits. Many people have heard about the benefits of sodium peroxide and there are many applications for it. It is extremely safe and inexpensive and is one of the most common ingredients in bleaches and disinfectants. The other major compound is monochlorhydrate which has a very similar active ingredient.

Oxygen bleach powder is made by combining sodium percarbonate with oxygen. Most household cleaners contain Sodium Percarbonate and many cleaners such as kitchen cleaners do as well. Combining the two creates a white powder that can easily be mixed with water to create a stain-removing paste. When mixed with water, the powder instantly works to remove stains from paper, fabric, and textiles. It also dissolves quickly into the liquid to release oxygen into the air and delivers strong cleaning, disinfecting, bleaching, and anti-rusting capabilities as well as being effective in killing germs, bacteria, and viruses.

Many industrial applications involving chemicals and electronics contain Sodium Percarbonate. It can be used for high-pressure bleaches to clean the external casing of electronic parts or used as an oxidizer to provide a protective layer against the corrosion of metallic parts. Applications, where Sodium Percarbonate is used, include electronics cleaning hoses, seals and fittings, electrolytic cell assembly lines, and electrolytic tubing and connectors. It is even used as an oxidizer in rocket motors to help remove corrosive soil and oxidizer residues.

Many cleaners that use sodium percarbonate are safe to use on most surfaces except those that have a steel base, as the powder is able to bond with some metals such as stainless steel, silver, copper, etc. For surfaces such as metal or wood, it is usually combined with a solvent in order to remove the bond between the two. When using sodium percarbonate on the carpet, it is usually combined with oxygen bleach in order to form a hard coating that will prevent the absorption of any liquids that could stain or otherwise damage the carpet fibers. This coating can be a simple solution to prevent damage done by liquids, stains, and dirt, however, it can also be used to lift up stubborn dirt and soil so that it can be vacuumed up.
