Phosphorus is a very commonly used element for various industries. The phosphorous compositions can be derived from phosphate rock and other rocks like limestone, granite, etc. The most popular industries which use this chemical are the cement industry, aluminum production, petrochemical industry, paper and rubber processing, pharmaceutical plants, power production, and chemical plants. It also found in animal feeds and in fertilizer. Phosphorus is highly demanded in numerous areas of food processing. The demand for phosphorous is increasing since the phosphorous content is useful for fertilizer and agricultural fields and it is resistant to many chemicals used in these fields.
The processing of phosphorous ore consists of the following steps; mixing phosphate rock matter with carbon and silica, grinding, adding water or coal, re-inturning in a vacuum furnace, and finally palletizing. The major applications of the phosphorous ore include production of steel, cement, ceramic tiles, adhesives, pesticides, rubber, and thermoplastic materials. Due to its importance in several applications, the demand for phosphorous is increasing. This invention has changed the traditional way of processing phosphorous and has made it cost-effective and convenient for users. As the demand and use of phosphorous increases so is the need for innovative processing methods.
Several processing methods have been developed by many companies to increase the efficiency of phosphorous utilization. These methods include chlorination, ion exchange, superimposition, precipitation, and solidification. These methods are suitable for phosphorous ore applications. Industrial phosphorous is used for many purposes. It is most commonly used in the production of steel and iron. This can be transformed into various alternative forms such as gas, liquid, and powders. However, the most commonly used form of phosphorous is phosphorous which is useful for fuel burning, fertilizer, and pharmaceutical industries. Recently, in September 2020, Nutrien launched new phosphorous and sulfur fertilizer Smart Nutrition MAP+MST fertilizer for fall or spring application.
