Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Treatment; Best Treated With A Combination of Behavior Therapy and Medication

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment includes medication, exercise, and talk therapy. One well-known benefit of exercise is an increase in endorphins, which may help improve mood. Exercise elevates the brain's levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, which increases focus and attention. Stimulants are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat ADHD in children and adolescents and are considered the first-line attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment. Stimulants are the best-known and most widely used ADHD medications.

ADD (attention deficit disorder) is the term usually used to describe a neurological condition with symptoms of inattention, distractibility, and poor working memory. ADHD is a medical condition that affects an individual's attention and self-control. ADHD can make it harder to control behavior, so kids and teens may get into trouble more. Depression, oppositional defiant disorder, anxiety, learning disabilities, and sensory processing disorder are the most common ADHD comorbidities. Symptoms include, an individual may daydream a lot, may have hard time resisting temptation, forget or loose things, have trouble taking turns, overly active, have difficulty getting along with others, and have trouble paying attention.

ADHD is an all-too-common mental health condition that includes difficulties with attention, impulse control, focus, and attention span. Children and adolescents with ADHD often have problems staying focused, paying attention, listening, and controlling their impulsivity and hyperactivity. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment can range from the fairly simple and straightforward to the complicated and highly customized. However, the type of treatment depends on the symptoms and the severity of the disorder. There are three main types of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment, such as psychostimulants (stimulants), behavioral modification, and natural remedies.

Psychostimulants help improve focus, attention, and productivity, but come with the potential for abuse and addiction. Focalin (dexmethylphenidate), Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine), Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts), Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine), and Ritalin (methylphenidate) are some of the most commonly prescribed medications for the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment. However, the use of these drugs come with serious side effects. Common side effects of these drugs include fatigue, upset stomach, dry mouth, nausea, sleep problems, anxiety, upset stomach, dizziness, and dry mouth. Many patients also report feelings of appetite disruption, weight gain, and insomnia when on medication for ADHD.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is treated with stimulant and non-stimulant drugs. Side effects of stimulant medication can include sleep problems and decreased appetite. While side effects of non-stimulants can include nausea and stomachaches. Other medicine side effects include jitteriness, irritability, moodiness, headaches, stomachaches, fast heart rate, and high blood pressure. Side effects usually happen in the first few days of starting a new medicine or taking a higher dose.

However, there is no known cure for ADHD, but several options can help manage symptoms of ADHD. In many cases, medication alone is an effective treatment for ADHD. Stimulants, such as amphetamine (the active ingredient in Adderall, Vyvanse, and other formulations) and methylphenidate (active ingredient in Ritalin, Concerta, and other formulations) are commonly used for the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) treatment.
