Clean Air Act Requirements and the Need to Prevent Emission of Environmentally Toxic Fumes to Boost Demand for Vapor Recovery Units


Vapor recovery, sometimes called dry gas recovery, is the procedure of capturing the vapors of fuel and other fuels, so they don't escape to the atmosphere. This can be performed at regular filling stations to prevent harmful and environmentally toxic fumes and emissions. It also saves on the storage costs for the station owners.

The demand for vapor recovery units is high in the U.S. as Environmental Protection Agency enforces clean air act requirements more strictly especially in highly populated areas. Currently between 7,000 and 9,000 vapor recovery units are installed in the oil and gas sector with an average of four tanks per recovery unit.

Vapor recovery units are very similar to a vented fireplace - the vented fireplace is connected to a vent that takes the exhaust gases to a vent outside. In the case of vapor recovery, the vent is in your house, and the vapor recovery unit is in a separate location. Here is how the two work together: The vent is opened so the gas can be removed from the inside. Once the gas is removed, the unit is left closed, which traps the gas in a sealed container. This sealed container is called a holding tank. The tank allows gas collection and does not allow vapors to escape. Since there is no escape of vapor gases, this is extremely effective in preventing air pollution from occurring. Not only are the emissions captured but they are stored securely for later retrieval, which allows the emissions to be cleaned up properly.

Proper vapor recovery isn't something you just learn in a couple of days. There are a few things you should know and keep in mind. First, if you are using a gas collection system, you need a proper sized and installed tank to collect the proper amount of gas. If your tank is too small or too large, the collection unit will not be able to capture enough gas for proper vapor recovery. When this happens, the collection unit isn't collecting enough gas for the system, which results in poor vapor recovery and air quality.

Also, you should ensure proper installation of your vapor recovery units. If it is not installed properly, it won't work as efficiently as it should. This is because it needs to have the right suction cup seal. You also need a proper air release valve installed, as well as a proper air filter so your gas is cleaned up properly.
